IMPORTANT! Be absolutely sure to save backup copies of your current files (DA, INIT, Remember's Settings and Occasion files) before installing any new files!!!!!! Save them on a floppy disk to be really safe.
TO AVOID STRANGE POP-UP ALERT MESSAGES WHEN INSTALLING THE NEW VERSION: You should remove the old "Remember? Extension" from the Extensions/System Folder and restart before installing the new DA and Extension. This prevents the old alert handler from trying to access the new format settings and occasion files and reporting (non-existent) problems.

General Changes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
• The "Remember's Settings" file and the Occasion files use a new, more reliable format. The DA will convert your old files to the new format but they will no longer be usable with earlier versions of the package. YOU SHOULD SAVE COPIES OF ALL OF YOUR EXISTING FILES (DA, Extension, Remember's Settings and Occasion files) BEFORE INSTALLING THE NEW SOFTWARE. Any sounds installed in your Settings file must be moved into the System file.
• Support for automatic "to do" items has been added in the form of "Persistent" occasions. Turn on the "Persistent" checkbox in the Occasion window and it will "stick" to todays date in What's Happening windows after it date of occurance, until you mark it as Completed. Click on the occasion in the What's Happening window and select "Completed" from the window's menu, or open an "Occasion" window for the item and select "Completed" in that window's menu.
"Completed" can be used on any occasion to skip over future occurances when you finish then early. Skipping the last occurance prompts you whether the occasion should be deleted. Hold down the Option key to delete without asking.
The main menu item "Add "To Do" item" creates an occasion for Today with the Persistent box already checked. Just enter the description and it will appear every day until you eliminate it with the "Completed" menu item.
• Available Occasion Types have been expanded to 32. Also, the relative priority and number of Types that appear in the Types menu can be changed in the Occasion Types window.
• Under System 7, most of the dialog windows are now movable.
• Special characters which caused problems on international Mac systems have been removed or changed to more appropriate characters.
• The "scroll bar" menus have been changed. They now look like standard menus but can be scrolled horizontally to allow access to a larger range of numbers. The old menus were limited to a maximum range of 128 values.
• Changes in the look of Calendars include: they occupy less space displaying only the rows needed for the current range of days; day of week titles use the shortest unique abbreviation; a dotted box is drawn around "today"; the starting day of week can be changed in Preferences.
• Command [ and Command ] (left/right square bracket) perform identically to Command left/right arrow keys in What's Happening, Calendar and Occasion windows.
• Saved windows can be deleted by holding down the Option key while selecting "Save Windows as" (you are prompted first.)
• Windows can be positioned and saved immediately below the menu bar. Also, windows on a color monitor now correctly draw in color, even if the main screen is monochrome.
• The DA automatically saves the locations of Occasion files after you relocate them (you had to Save them manually with V2.2.)
• The year 2000 is correctly handled as a leap year.
"What's Happening" Windows

• Updates are much faster.
• "Delete" window menu item added to delete occasions without opening an "Occasion" window. "Completed" operates as described above.
• Now handles "Edit" menu "Copy" or "Cut" commands.
• For color Macs, the calendar will display each day using the Occasion Type color for the highest priority occasion occuring on that day. (I tried doing the same for bold, outline, etc for non-color Macs but it looked hideous.)
• The arrow keys move the current selection.
"Occasion" Windows

• The "Edit Occasion" window has been renamed to simply "Occasion" and looks a little different (OK, a LOT different.) The "clock face" time controls have been replaced with pop-up menus for the hour and minute (in response to the tide of opinion that they were cute but hard to use.) The date of next occurance is shown in the problem box if there are no problems.
• "Occasion" windows created by double-clicking on a calendar day have only the Month, Day and Year, the Which and Day of Week items are blank.
• "Alternate" week occasions, which repeat every 14 days, have been extended to a general "Repeat" item with an inverval of 1 to 255 days. It still requires a starting year, month and day.
• The "Desc >> When it Occurs" command correctly handles short dates (e.g.: "3/9/92".) In V2.2 it would swap the month and day numbers. Also, only the specific fields you enter are changed.
• Command-OPTION left/right arrow keys bump the Alert time in 5 minute increments.
• Command-F continues a previous search if you have not changes any window items.
"Browse" Windows

• Click on one of the column titles "What, When or Type" to sort by that field. (You can still drag the titles to move the fields.)
• You can select several individual items in a Browse window by holding down the "Command" key while clicking. You can still use "Shift" to extend selections.
"Preferences..."
~~~~~~~~~~~
• The short cut for "Set Preferences" has been changed from Command-S to Command-U.
• The Preferences dialog has been expanded to allow access to many new options. Most of the options will not be of interest to the novice user and are hidden unless the "Expert" box is checked. Most are easy to understand. Others may require some experimenting to determine the exact function. (Most were previously available through ResEdit templates.)
• Color and style choices are applied more consistently. In particular, the "General Purpose Text" style is used for unspecified attributes of other styles.
• Color choices can be made more exact by setting the "Color Tolerance" item to smaller values. Larger values tend to use the closest available color in the default system set.
• Printing:What's Happening:Occasion text style now operates as an override for the attributes of items in the What's Happening list. In other works, you can force any combination of attributes when you print. Turning off all of the style's items causes the text to be printed EXACTLY as it appears in the window.
• The "Windows:What's happening:Occasion type prefixes" style can be used to set the font and size of the Occasion Type prefix strings displayed in the list. You can use the Zaph Dingbats symbols for example. NOTE: TURNING ON ANY OF THIS STYLE'S ITEMS WILL NOTICEABLY SLOW DOWN UPDATING OF WHAT'S HAPPENING WINDOWS!
• Added a Preference item that selects whether What's Happening windows sort by Start time then Occasion Type (as before,) or by Type and then Start time.
"Occasion Files..."

• The "Auto-Delete" and "Locked" items have been moved here from the Browse window. A new item "Shared" should be turned on for files shared on a network (doesn't do much now but will be used by pop-up alerts in the future.) The path to the current selected file is displayed at the bottom of the dialog.
• Any changes to the open file list are saved unless you turn off the "Save Changes" check box. The cursor arrow keys move the selection in the Occasion Files dialog. Typing the first letter of a file name will select that file, type it again quickly to open a Browse window (same as a double click.)
"Occasion Types..."

• Completely redesigned.
• Scrolling list of available types. Types above the dotted line will appear in the Types menu (available in the Occasion and Browse windows.) Those below the line do not appear in he menu.
• You can click and drag types in the list to rearrange them in the menu. Items higher in the list have a higher priority than those below. Dragging across the dotted line adds or removes the item from the menu. You can also drag the dotted line itself.
• You can specify which Type is used by the main menu "Add Occasion(s)" (Command-A) and "Add "To Do" item" (Command-B) by cicking on the appropriate checkbox in the upper right. The types selected for both command are shown in bold in the list.
• The "Standard Notification" interval has been moved into the Preferences:General list.
• Changes to occasion types are not saved unless and until you click on the OK button.
Pop-up Alerts

• The unnecessary and misunderstood "Revise Alert" item has been removed from the pop-up alert menu. Command-Option-R to revise is still supported but does not appear in the menu. This item confused more people than it helped (if it helped anyone.)
• Changed pop-up alert "hot key" back to old style of activating when the key was pressed rather than when it was released (the old way is more reliable.)
• Changes to the code to run the DA under System 6 may improve its reliability. Also, under System 7, a file "alias" is used to remember the location of the DA. You can put the DA in sub-menus off the Apple menu, or remove it entirely. This alias will be updated whenever the DA is opened and the old alias is no longer valid.
"Remember? Extension"

• The startup checks for occasions "Of Interest" has been moved from the Extension to the DA. The Extension will open the DA every startup or once a day depending on your preference, and the DA will close itself if there is nothing of interest.
• Display of icons at startup should work properly on all Macs. Some icons have been changed or removed. In particular, the "happy" icon simply means that the Extension will open the DA and not that there are necessarily occasions of interest. Also, to save space, only the more common icons have a color version.
• Fixed incompatibility with Now utilities MultiMaster. MultiMaster's last few menu items would not work when "Remember? Extension" loaded after it at startup. Corrected problem with driver that caused a crash on unknown "Control" calls.
• Fixed odd pop-up alert problem where "LAST someday OF MONTH" occasion could appear one week too soon.
Possible Problems
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
• Users of Suitcase should be using V1.2.11 or later. In particular, V1.2.10 had some problems under System 7 with the pop-up alerts.
• Thunder7 may interfere with some of the dialog windows. In particular a bomb may result if you click outside of teh windows.
